GanymedeΓÇÖs surface is not rocky like our MoonΓÇÖs, and its craters are shallow. In this close-up, taken at 242,880 kilometers, no mountains, or even hills, are visible. The absence of mountains and the shallowness of the craters are indications that GanymedeΓÇÖs surface is probably covered with hard ice and that only small areas of the surface are rocky terrain.
